Bangladesh defeats Uzbekistan by 4-2 goals in Asian Games Hockey

Bangladesh secured their second consecutive win in Pool A match of the 12-nation 19th Asian Games Men's Hockey, beating Uzbekistan by 4-2 goals at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou on Saturday.

Earlier, Bangladesh beat Singapore by 7-3 goals in the previous match last Thursday after suffering two consecutive defeats in the first two matches.

However, Bangladesh suffered a 2-7 goal loss against defending champions Japan in the first match and conceded a 2-5 goal defeat against eight-time Asian Games champions Pakistan in the second match.

Bangladesh, which was placed in six-team Pool A of the Asiad Hockey with India, Japan, Pakistan, Singapore, and Uzbekistan, will play group leader India on Monday in remaining Pool A match.

After the match, arch-rivals India and Pakistan secured a full nine points from three straight matches to brighten their semifinal berth from Pool A, while Japan also bagged nine points from four matches.

Two unbeaten teams—India and Pakistan—scheduled to play each other Saturday evening.

Bangladesh is in the fourth slot with four points, playing four matches, while Uzbekistan and Singapore are at the bottom without any points, also playing four matches.

The day's match was locked in 2-2 goals in the first half.

Ashraful Islam put Bangladesh ahead in the 10th minute from a penalty corner (1-0).

Ruslan Karimov levelled the margin for Uzbekistan in the 17th minute (1-1).

Arshad Hossain again put Bangladesh ahead in the 21st minute, while Janibek neutralised the margin for Uzbekistan in the 26th minute to lock the first half (2-2).

Ashraful Islam scored his second and third goal for Bangladesh in the 42nd minute from a penalty stroke (3-2).

Amirul Islam sealed the fate of the match by scoring the fourth goal for Bangladesh in the 52nd minute from a penalty corner (4-2), reports UNB.
