Kiwis hope for semis brightens defeating Sri Lanka by 5 wickets

New Zealand in their must-win World Cup game against Sri Lanka to move into semifinals achieved an easy victory of 5 wickets.

Sri Lanka, in Thursday’s ICC World Cup match held in Bengaluru, bowled out for just 171 in 46.5 overs.  

No top order batter could score enough, but tail-ender Maheesh Theekshana, who came out to bat at no. 8, save the Lankans from highly disgraced situation.

He scored 39 off 91 balls.

Trent Boult took 3 and Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchel Santner took 2 wickets each for New Zealand.

In reply, New Zealand had not much trouble as they chase down the target in just 23.2 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Devon Conway was the top scorer for NZ with 45 off 42 balls.

Tent Boult was judged the player man of the match .
