Nahida becomes 1st Bangladeshi women to win ICC’s Player of the Month award

Nahida Akter has become ICC’s best female player of the month for the month of November.

Nahida, the left arm spinner of Bangladesh Women Cricket Team, clinched the award by her brilliant performance in ODI series against Pakistan last month and became the first Bangladeshi female player to win the award.

She took 3 wickets in both the first and the last match of the series. The second match went into super over where she took 2 wickets in the super over to confirm the win for Bangladesh.

Regarding winning the award, Nahida said, “Surely, I’ll cherish the moment. It will be a source of inspiration to me. We’ve played very good cricket recently and I’m happy to contribute to the team to make it successful. I’d like to thank the coach, captain and teammates as they’ve always put their trust on me.”

There was another Bangladshi competitor in the fight to win the award: Farzana Haque Pinki. She scored 110 runs in the series against Pakistan. She played a great innings of 62 runs in the last match and 40 runs in the second match. Although Pakistan did not win the series, the team's Sadia Iqbal was excellent in bowling. After taking 4 wickets in the first match, she took 2 wickets in the second match. She has taken 6 wickets at an average of 12.50 and 2.58 runs per over in three matches.

Meanwhile, Travis Head was named as the Male Cricketer of the Month. The left-handed opener made Australia the champion by scoring an extraordinary century against India in the World Cup final. Even in the semi-finals, the all-rounder exhibited a man-of-the-match performance. Therefore, his two rivals, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Shami, were lagging behind to win this award.
